ABCU Credit Union is now hiring an Investment Specialist who reports to the Community Branch Manager, based out of Beaumont, Alberta.

The Investment Specialist is a key member of the wealth advisory team. The primary responsibility is to actively manage a portfolio of investment members for both the Credential Asset Management and ABCU platforms. Additional responsibilities include; engagement activities to retain and consolidate existing members business to the Credit Union and attract new investment member growth. This position works closely with the Investment Associate, Credential Securities Advisor (CSI), Credit Advisor, and Senior Manager, Commercial & Retail Services. This role requires expert knowledge of investment products, a mutual fund license and the ability to make unbiased investment recommendations.

This role is part of the overall branch team and works out of multiple locations. While not required to be on the branch schedule, this roll may be required to take on temporary duties when dealing with any short term urgent issues.

Ownership & Accountabilities

Be a leader in Member Relationship Building

Use your strong relationship building and networking skills to build connections, generate leads, promote and deliver investment awareness to all members through:

  • Monthly contact plan that delivers results
    • 120 contacts per month minimum
    • Minimum 10 member meetings per week
  • Internal and external seminars following the Aviso Wealth protocols.
  • Making it easy for members to access you.
  • Deeply understand your local market and potential member base, creating a comprehensive sales plan that will convert leads into new ABCU members.
  • Use your strong relationship building and networking skills to build connections, generate opportunities, and deliver bottom line results.
  • Leverage ABCU’s investment solutions to provide a needs-based approach that will result in satisfied, loyal clients and increased referrals.
  • Document all member conversations for consistency.
  • Investment advice is to be delivered through planning discussions and investment proposals which are revisited and updated during regular member reviews for reconfirming goals and objectives. Minimum contact is once per year.
  • Deal with member complaints and problems quickly and effectively.
  • Segment portfolio and track members in each category using the 80-20 Rule and following the three A’s – Asset, Attitude, Advocate.
  • Collaborate with different branch teams to build relationships and provide members with personalized investment advice and comprehensive financial planning support.
  • Provide advice based on a holistic approach by understanding members financial goals and needs.

Be a Professional Investment Expert

  • Be current and have superior knowledge of all investment products offered, policies and procedures.
  • Find meaning in relationships, and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.
  • Using the tools in place to discuss credit and insurance with intent of closing the sale.
  • Use your expertise to identify opportunities to further consolidate member’s external financial business through member awareness and education about:
    • Role of the CSI Investment Advisor and corresponding value proposition.
    • Role of the Credit Advisor.
    • Commercial Specialist.
    • Johnson’s Home and Auto.
    • Concentra Estate Planning (Executor Ease Program).
  • Deliver a consistent member experience with every interaction by following a standard process that seeks to understand member investment objectives, risk tolerance to determine the appropriate asset allocation models and provide evidence of member conversations through effective charting notes.

Bring Ownership to the Portfolio

  • Have knowledge of the profitability of your portfolio and the impact that pricing and fee waiving can have to your bottom line.
  • Importance of understanding own portfolio and the net growth resulting from activities such as:
    • New Sales
    • Retention activities
    • Referrals to wealth
    • Referrals to insurance
  • Work as a team with the CSI Investment Advisor, other Investment Specialist(s) and Wealth Advisory Support.
  • Take ownership of the personal and professional development of your advisor support.
  • Create a monthly contact plan that will provide a road map for your success. This plan should include:
    • All renewals.
    • Pipeline opportunities.
    • Diary follow-ups.
    • Leads.
  • Be prepared for your weekly coaching sessions and ensure all compliance processes are adhered to.
  • Perform data entry and other tasks required for the administration and processing of banking transactions and the maintenance of account records. Second-day review of banking reports.

Be Passionate About Your Portfolio

  • Measure your success through both achievements in net portfolio growth and member satisfaction.
  • Focus on what you can do to ensure success is achieved at the corporate level, your level and the member level.

Experience Required

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma required.
  • Comfort and ability to work with a high level of detail/accuracy.
  • This is predominantly a self-managed role.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy is essential.
  • Six to ten years of job-related/industry experience.
  • Completion of the Personal Financial Services Advice (PFSA) offered through Canadian Securities Institute
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or Canadian Investment Funds Course to support MFDA required.
  • Completion of CUIC General Studies Program preferred or working towards (may be waived depending upon position).
  • A combination of post-secondary education and work experience will be considered.

Internal/External Contacts

  • Incumbent will have contact with all employees and members of ABCU Credit Union, related businesses and the public.
  • Incumbent will have contact with other credit unions, banks, trust companies, Aviso Wealth Management, other industry related businesses, and government and regulatory bodies.
