ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting into Alberta Central’s Chief Economist, this position supports research projects, prepares reports and insights on issues related to credit unions. This role collects, processes, and presents data relevant to the analysis and understanding of the economic and business environment in which credit unions operate. Supports the Chief Economist and the Senior Researcher in the gathering and analysis of data and contributes to the preparations of reports. This role works independently under guidance from Senior team members and requires attention to details and strong written skills.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct economic research on regional, national and international economies, industry sectors, labour and housing markets, and public policies.
  • Conduct research on the financial system in Canada and internationally to gather insights and provide recommendations on issues that matter for the credit union system.
  • Collect, manage, and present large quantities of data for further analysis to support reports on current economic conditions and economic forecasting.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed economic reports and presentations for the organization and Alberta Credit Union system.
  • Triage and respond accordingly to requests for economic inquiries and information from Alberta Central stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Chief Economist and the Senior Researcher and actively participate in a cooperative manner to the department objectives.
  • Support risk management by following established policies, procedures, and controls both corporately and within area of responsibility and escalates discrepancies to management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Related University degree and/or professional designation and 2 or more years of related experience; or combination of formal education and experience.
  • Post-Graduate Economics degree preferred but a strong knowledge/experience of Economics will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of macroeconomics.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian financial sector and financial markets an asset.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working with data and presenting research with compelling visuals. Experience in data science, big data or econometrics/modelling an asset.
  • Team-oriented, having experience collaborating with multiple levels and sectors of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be bondable.
