The Prairie Payments Joint Venture (PPJV) is a joint venture owned by three Prairie centrals created to digitally transform and modernize payment services for credit unions in the Prairies. PPJV’s goal is to ensure prairie credit unions are competitive in payments and have access to efficient, modernized payments processing infrastructure.

Role Summary

PPJV is seeking a full-time Internal Audit Intern to support our Internal Audit team at our Calgary, AB Location. The Internal Audit Intern’s primary responsibility will focus on supporting the Director, Internal Audit to execute the 2024 Internal Audit Plan. The work performed by the Internal Audit Intern will help provide assurance to the Board of Directors and to management as to the adequacy and effectiveness of PPJV’s governance, risk management and control processes. The Internal Audit Intern will also contribute to identification of process improvement opportunities in the areas audited and will gain hands-on experience working in a dynamic environment.

In addition to the Internal Audit Intern’s responsibilities within the Internal Audit function, the position will also involve a secondment to support the completion of special assurance and advisory-based projects for the Contract Management function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and execution of internal audit projects.
  • Participate in and document interviews with auditees.
  • Document understanding of processes reviewed or audited in flowchart and narrative format.
  • Conduct audit test procedures (e.g., inspection of documentary evidence, inquiry, observation, etc.) and document test results in audit working papers to support audit conclusions.
  • Document potential audit findings and participate in meetings with auditees and the Director, Internal Audit, to finalize audit findings and recommendations.
  • Support the Director, Internal Audit, in delivering advisory engagements, which could include unplanned audit requests, special investigations, as well as advisory support for other functional departments as processes are being designed or enhanced.
  • Support the Senior Director, Contract Management in delivering a vendor management framework to be operationalized by PPJV. Deliverables include:
    • Creation of a vendor scorecard system for key vendors
    • Vendor risk assessment based on scorecard results
    • Creation of a forecast of contract renewals, extensions, and expirations
    • Contract / Project Change Request document retention using various technologies such as Sharepoint / Ironclad
    • Vendor sourcing and capability assessment based on PPJV’s technology roadmap
    • Documentation of Vendor Management process / desk level procedures aligned to internal audit requirements
    • Completion of various tasks related to vendor / contract management functions

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A curious mindset and enthusiasm for finding innovative solutions to challenges.
  • The successful candidate will need to undergo the back check and bonding process.
  • Must be bondable.
