In recent media coverage, Alberta Central Chief Economist Charles St-Arnaud spoke about the jobs numbers.

He spoke to CBC on September 8, noting that the recent labour force data indicates that Alberta is in good shape and the jobs numbers are good news for the province.

“Employment remains strong and generally the labour market in Alberta is stronger than the rest of Canada,” he said. “The economy, more broadly, is also performing better than the rest of the country.”

He also was quoted in an article from Yahoo Finance, noting “…the August jobs report tracked an increase in hours worked of 0.5 per cent from July suggesting a rebound in economic activity in August.”

He was also quoted in additional online coverage, stating that these job numbers could be a cause of concern for the Bank of Canada.
